The concept Director/writer/actor Ben Stiller had for "ZOOLANDER" is pretty witty. His idea of satirizing the modeling industry by having his character, Derek Zoolander, fight evil, and stand as a representation for "models" in general offers some great "AUSTIN POWERS"-like moments. The biggest joke is, like "Austin Powers" Derek doesn't realize the joke is on him! The plot follows Derek's fall from the top of his career, trying to find a sense of purpose, and unwittingly becoming involved in an evil fashion designers plan to....(let's keep it a secret!)
The supporting cast is phenomenal! The funniest scene in the film features John Voight as Derek's father, but there are other hilarious bits with Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson and more.
PARAMOUNT has given the transfer a near "Demonstration Quality" presentation!
The 2.35:1 aspect ratio is intact with 16:9 enhancement. Colors are extremely vibrant, complimenting the film's great production design, without any oversaturation. Fleshtones appear natural throughout. The contrast is flawless, offering deep blacks and grays. There is no grain present anywhere!
The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is extremely aggressive! While the film's soundtrack drives most of the effects, there are plenty of panning directional effects utilizing all speakers throughout the film. The dialogue is always clear and free from distortion, in spite of layered effects. The bass is terrific and there are a number of LFE effects.Z
Stiller and his co-writers provide a running commentary, and it's one of the funniest we've heard so far! These guys offer some interesting production info, but most of the time they're just being witty and bringing out even more laughs than the film!
There is a "deleted" scenes segment, which can be heard with or without Stillers' commentary.
This is one instance, where "all" of the deleted scenes should have been left
in the film. They are all hilarious. An "extended" scene segment,
offers five extended scenes, but none of them add to the film. There is
also an "alternate title sequence" which is actually more impressive than the
one used.
We also get to see the VH-1-Vogue Fashion Award skits, running a total of about 6 1/2 minutes. These were the skits which actually inspired the movie. A music video is included and still much, much more!
Any fans of the film will love this dvd!!!!
