The picture was sharp and colors were mostly defined in spite of some difficult lighting situations to various scenes, however, there was limited grain. The DVD version amplifies the color sharpness and completely eliminates the previous grain. Every single scene has spectacular definition. MGM has decided to offer this release only in widescreen. Although some uneducated viewers may be displeased with this decision, Weir's compositions and the tension surrounding most of them would be destroyed with cropping. The stereo sound is on par with the laser release. While the soundtrack doesn't offer a multitude of sound effects, Mauric Jarre's music is beautiful and is well represented in the transfer. |
