THE WRONG GUY
BUENA VISTA dug into its vaults and found a title from 1997, featuring a then, largely unknown, Dave Foley. Although Foley had proven his comedic talent with the “KIDS IN THE HALL” comedy group, it wasn’t until his role as Phil Hartman’s boss on “NEWSRADIO,” that he became well known.
In “THE WRONG GUY,” Foley plays an unassuming executive about to marry the boss’s daughter. When he becomes aware that he’s not going to get the promotion he’d been counting on, he goes momentarily nuts and has to be thrown out of the office.
Later on, upon returning to work, his boss has been murdered, and Foley is sure that he’s been wrongly fingered as the murderer. There have been other takeoffs on “THE FUGITIVE,” “WRONGLY ACCUSED” being just one, but “THE WRONG GUY” is generally entertaining, and at times, even hilarious. While the plot is just average, Foley’s comedic timing and gestures are really amusing to watch, and help make this movie move faster than its already brief running time.
BUENA VISTA has presented the film with its proper 1.85:1 aspect ratio, without 16:9 enhancement. Color values aren’t spectacular, but they’re decent. Although colors aren’t vibrant, they never appear to be muted, and there’s decent resolution throughout the film. The contrast is fine, with solid blacks and grays, although they’re not as distinguished as they appear in many superior BUENA VISTA releases.
The DOLBY DIGITAL 2.0 surround mix is not aggressive by any means. There are no virtually no surround effects. The few ambient effects are delegated to the front soundstage. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
