WITH A
FRIEND LIKE HARRY
BUENA VISTA has released the widely acclaimed “WITH A FRIEND LIKE
HARRY”. This French thriller has plenty of surprises from beginning to end, and
its main characters are well defined and believable, giving this film what a
real thriller needs, believability. The film is about a married couple, Michel
and Claire, heading to their summer home for a vacation. Right off the bat, we
get a well conceived picture of what Michel’s life is like, as the kids are
annoying throughout the car ride. After stopping off at a rest stop, he runs
into Harry, someone claiming to be an old school friend. Although Michel
doesn’t really remember Harry, he invites him and his girlfriend aboard for the
trip.
Upon reaching the summer home, Harry continues to describe events from Michel’s past, and while he seems extremely decent, there’s still something about him that seems unsettling.
Contrasts between Michel and Harry’s life are brought forth by Harry’s seemingly
carefree spending of money, but Harry appears to only want Michel’s life to be
better as he pushes Michel to finish writing a novel he’s all but given up on.
His “good” intentions may harbor something much darker, and the psychological
push-and-pull between the two becomes increasingly tense, as the film becomes an
edge-of-the-seat thriller.
BUENA VISTA has presented the film with its correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio and 16:9
enhancement. The image is extremely sharp and detail is excellent. Colors are
solid and contrast offers deep blacks and grays.
The original French Dolby Digital 5.1 soundmix is offered along with a dubbed
5.1 mix. Both soundmixes are entertaining, though restrained in terms of
surround effects. The dubbing is also far better than on most foreign
films.
There are several
trailers included.
