SRP $19.95 1.85:1(16:9) DOLBY DIGITAL 2.0 COLUMBIA TRISTAR

Dylan McDermott plays a down on his luck, aspiring screenwriter and Sharon Stone as(believe it or not!)a real bitch of an agent, in "WHERE SLEEPING DOGS LIE."  After being thrown out of his apartment, McDermott finds refuge in an abandoned house.  When he finds out that it's the site where some bizarre murders occurred, he decides to write his next "script" about them.  Adding to the film's bizarre level, is none other than Tom Sizemore as a mysterious man deciding to "rent" a room in the abandoned place from McDermott.  Who's deceiving whom?  Who actually committed these murders?  Who cares?  This is a strictly by-the-numbers "suspense" film.  Unfortunately, we've seen it all before many times!  There's nothing really surprising here!  Still, there is some decent acting, and the production values are impressive.  There are even a few edge-of-the-seat moments, but they're too few and far between.

COLUMBIA TRISTAR preserved the film's 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement.  Colors are generally vibrant, and the film, while not sharp, has plenty of detail to it. Contrast is adequate, but without the deep blacks and grays visible on many other COLUMBIA TRISTAR releases.  Fleshtones appear natural.

The Dolby Digital 2.0 surround mix is fairly aggressive.  There is plenty of surround involvement, and the music, while not memorable, is complimented by all speakers.  Dialogue is almost always intelligible, but there are a few moments with distortion.
