Another release from the Walt Disney Treasures
line is "SILLY SYMPHONIES". The cartoons offered here were all released
from 1929-1939. There are "a lot" of cartoons here! As with the other
limited tins from BUENA VISTA just released, these are all individually stamped
with their correct number out of 150,000.
The cartoons are all in the correct 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Although most of the cartoons look sensational, there are a few which have some noticeable problems. Grain is extensive at times, and colors vary in their vibrancy at times. However, most of the cartoons offer bright color saturation, as well as a slick look.
The monaural sound is generally fine, although there are a few instances where the age of the audio is apparent, bringing about limited fidelity.
Critic Leonard Maltin offers an introduction
with his usual flair and enthusiasm. There are extensive supplements on
both discs, but disc two offers the most, with interviews and featurettes. There
is also a section devoted to stills, poster art, and other goodies Disney fans
will certainly be delighted with.
