Vertical Limit-
Few films offer the visual and aural sensations featured in the opening
sequence of "VERTICAL LIMIT."  In this sequence Chris O'Donnel, his sister(Robin Tunney) father and fellow mountain climbers are suddenly catapulted into despair as faulty equipment and bad luck cause ropes to break, climbers to fall, and a father to ask his son to make a tough decision in order to save the family.  This decision will haunt the son all the way to the film's climax.  After the initial shocking sequence, the audience is catapulted years later, as the surviving brother and sister, now still attracted to mountains but in different ways.  The sister has joined a group hired to ensure a billionaire played by Bill Paxton scale K2.  This feat must be achieved in accordance to a set schedule in order to maximize the advertising benefit for his new
airline.  Unfortunately, the mountain doesn't work on a schedule.  When
things turn awfully bad, O' Donnell is forced to save the day.
The film's script suffers at times from really poor dialogue and
structure, but overall, it's more than tolerable when considering the
sheer entertainment value of the adventure at hand.  This is a great
action film!  Director Martin Campbell was smart enough to cast some
great actors that really add to the film's value.  One can't help but
feel terror when some of them are blown off the face of the mountain,
not only because we like them, but also because we had no idea they were expendable!

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented the film with its proper 1.85:1 aspect ratio and 16:9 enhancement.  The image is startling!  There is
incredible detail in every scene!  There is no pixelation at all to be
found!  The color values are outstanding as well, all of them vibrant!
Fleshtones appear natural throughout and contrast is flawless!
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented the film with an extremely aggressive dolby Digital 5.1 mix!  The soundstage is remarkable here. In a scene in which climbers must jump from a helicopter onto a sheer cliff, the sound of the rotor blades is life-like enough to make listeners move back!  As good as the front soundstage separation is, the surrounds are even more effective, adding great depth and scope to already spectacular images.
The bass effects are extremely effective as well.

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has included an audio commentary with the film's director and producer.  Martin Campbell and Lloyd Phillips offer
technical information as well as some entertaining behind-the-scenes
stories.  Although many scenes were on a soundstage, there are a fair
share taking place on actual location, and the challenges this kind of
shoot presents are extremely interesting.
