TRUE ROMANCE:DIRECTOR'S CUT
Director Tony Scot has done his best work in True Romance. Of course it helps to have Quentin Tarentino's best script as well! In fact, we defy any viewer to watch this film and not agree that it's the best work of everyone involved! With this in mind, it's great news for "True Romance" fans(This means anyone who's seen the film!)that the DVD looks exceptional. Tony Scott loves to present various shades of darkness and light to all of his work, and every subtle nuance of color is represented perfectly here. The one major disappointment lies in the sound quality. While it's good, it's not as clean sounding as the laserdisc version. Even more disheartening, WARNER BROS neglected to encode this DVD with Dolby Digital(5.1) One need only view the Dennis Hopper/Christopher Walken sequence to realize how much this would have aided in making a great film even greater. The extra footage duplicates what has already been offered on laserdisc. There aren't any additional scenes, but Gary Oldman's confrontation with Slater and Patricia Arquette's confrontation with a hit man are much more gruesome.
