BUENA VISTA has been doing more to further blu-ray3d, with its many exciting and great-looking releases, than any other studio so far!
After great looking blu-ray 3d releases of “LION KING” and “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST,” they’ve raised the bar again with the BLU-RAY 3d releases of all 3 “TOY STORY” films.
Anyone who hasn’t seen the “TOY STORY” films, is in for an incredible adventure! But, even for those who have seen them, these new “3d” presentations are spectacular and really demonstrate that with great care, select, originally “2D” films can be converted in a way that compliments the imagery, rather than just exploiting the option.
Of course, the first film “TOY STORY” has a place in this reviewer’s heart that few animated films could come near to achieving. Tom Hanks is perfectly cast as Woody, the cowboy doll, with a voice(so long as its cord is pulled) for that extra thrill kids enjoy. Of course, when humans aren’t aware, Woody and all of the playtoys belonging to their owner, Andy, come to life, run around, and create side-splitting laughs, as they embark on a great adventure. It’s due to the incredible imagination and foresight of PIXAR and the film’s creators that “TOY STORY” doesn’t feel dated, even 16 years later! Tim Allen is fantastic as Buzz Lightyear, but then, everyone here is perfectly cast in their voice-roles. Don Rickles??? OUTSTANDING as Mr. Potato Head!
There’s no point in giving more of a synopsis. If any viewer has not seen “TOY STORY,” and owns the necessary blu-ray 3d equipment for the full blu-ray3d experience, run and get this! For any viewer that has seen “TOY STORY” before, “this” 3d version makes it even better than before!
DISNEY has provided the correct 1.78:1 aspect ratio for this MVC MPEG-4 1080p release. While the colors are strikingly vibrant in the 2d blu-ray, also offered in this release, the blu-ray3d image is even more impressive with their richness. There have been many blu-ray3d releases, wherein colors could appear a bit lessened in comparison to their 2d counterpart. That’s not the case here! Detail within the background and foreground, as well as in defining the various aspects of the computer generated clothes and more, are just spectacular looking! The contrast is also excellent, without any of the problems relating to light diminishment found on some blu-ray3d titles. The depth varies in its impact, with some moments certain to generate some awe within the viewer, but mostly the 3d just wonderfully compliments the already impressive design of the film.
DISNEY has provided a DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix. From the first scene, built around the impressive debut of Andy’s newest addition to his toy collection, Buzz Lightyear, for his birthday, until the end credits, this is one exciting, immersive soundmix!!! The intricacies of this fine mix are impressive as discrete, bass and panning effects all blend together for an extravaganza that will please anyone proud of their home theater equipment. All the while, dialogue is perfectly intelligible and never overshadowed. A FLAWLESS MIX!
DISNEY has carried over most of the supplemental material offered on the dvd, and still in standard resolution. However, there are also some great looking full hd supplements too. Perhaps the best HD featurette examines a version of “TOY STORY” that was discarded for the superior one offered.
