The “adult” board game “TABOO” is the cause of many “adult” problems in the COLUMBIA TRISTAR dvd release of “TABOO.”
The board game revolves around each player having to answer a question, sexual in nature, regarding a “taboo,” e.g. “Would you have an affair with your best friend’s girlfriend?” etc. Of course these answers bring about certain animosities between certain players. The film fast forwards to the future, a year later. It’s New Years’ Eve, and everyone is gathered again in a deserted house, during a night filled with rain and thunder. Every scene becomes a cliché, as the guests begin to get murdered, with a single card left on them referring to their broken “taboo” revealed in the game a year before.
It tries to borrow many concepts and “surprises” from other films, but none of them work, and it ultimately feels confusing.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has preserved the film’s 1.85:1 aspect ratio, with 16:9 enhancement. Colors are solid, though never too vibrant. The contrast is fine, allowing for decent resolution in many of the darker scenes, in spite of frequent grain. Fleshtones appear natural.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented a Dolby 2.0 Surround mix. While it’s not overly aggressive, there are enough surround/directional effects, to create a sufficiently scary atmosphere at times. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
There are three trailers for other COLUMBIA TRISTAR releases.
