Perhaps Wertmuller's funniest film, "SWEPT AWAY" is the story of a rich capitalist and the role reversal she must endure after becoming castaway with her communist servant on a desert island. The film manages to achieve something unusual in most of Wertmuller's films, it's actually romantic! While there's more than enough biting dialogue, there's also real passion conveyed between Giancarlo Giannini and Mariangela Melato's characters. The transfer captures the 1.85:1 scope perfectly, allowing for the framing to feel just open enough! The image is sharp with accurate fleshtones, fine contrast and deep blacks and grays. While we can't preach enough how angry we are that WINSTAR isn't presenting these films with anamorphic design, the image is still impressive. The mono sound is unremarkable.
