While not a big fan of the more recent “SPIDERMAN” cartoons, this reviewer was
extremely surprised with the entertainment value of the newly available boxed
set of the “ORIGINAL SPIDERMAN” cartoons in the BUENA VISTA release of
“SPIDERMAN: THE ’67 COLLECTION”.  52 episodes running almost 20 hours, will be
certain to entertain audiences young and old.  Sure, the animation is dated, and
the stories, half of which only run about 10 minutes in length, often have
little or no attempt at plot development, but it’s great fun! While there are
plenty of moments that appear unintentionally funny by today’s standards of
animation, even these often some nostalgic value.  While the animation process
is primitive by modern CGI standards, the design and artwork is often amazing.
No matter how much they try, with the exception of Paul Dini and like-minded
animation fans, there are few cartoon series as good as this one was!

Spread out over 6 discs, BUENA VISTA keeps the original 1.33:1 ratio.  Colors
are typically rich and there are virtually no signs of age or deterioration.
There are only a few small exceptions to this, found in later episodes.  This is
generally a great looking presentation!

BUENA VISTA has presented a Dolby 2.0 mono mix. While it doesn’t offer the Dolby
Digital 5.1 effects of many modern cartoons, it’s well presented, and never
sounds distorted. Even in mono, the effects are enjoyable!
A few extras, including a booklet with the theme song’s lyrics and episode
guide, is included.
