"How Stella Got Her Groove Back", like "Waiting to Exhale", is based on a novel by Terry McMillan. The fact that she shares a screenwriting credit with Ron(Rain Man)Bass, the scriptwriter of her previous novel, also helps make this an even more faithful adaptation. The film, like the novel, is more optimistic and enjoyable! Highly autobiographical, the title character, Stella, vacations to Jamaica, and finds the love of her life, a man 20 years her junior. The acting is terrific, and Whoopi Goldberg is wonderful without having to seal the show.
The scenery is an important element to the film's atmosphere, and FOX deserves credit for the wonderful, polished transfer that's been achieved here. The clarity of the ocean and sky is amazing! Fleshtones are perfect and the contrast is nearly flawless in every scene.
The dolby digital 5.1 sound offers a sensational, upbeat soundtrack and numerous directional effects.

Although this British Comedy is more complicated than it needs to be, it's also entertaining! The plot involves two con men robbing from the rich to give to themselves! Their conscience begins to take hold after falling for a classy, broke beauty(Kate Beckinsale).
FOX has done a fine job with this transfer. Still, there are some artifacts present, but not enough to prevent us from recommending this title. The fleshtones are excellent, and contrast is generally consistent. The dolby surround sound offers some directional effects, but overall is limited.
