06522 1.33:1 STANDARD DOLBY DIGITAL MONO PARAMOUNT

PARAMOUNT has chosen to look into its vaults and unearth a "classic"!  While John Ford has his legions of fans, there's something to be said of the subtlety and wisdom found in George Stevens' work.  "SHANE" is a fine example!  Alan Ladd stars as a retired gunfighter forced to fight again while giving his help to a temporarily fatherless/husbandless family.  Jack Palance gives a terrific performance that unfortunately typecast him in the process, as the really bad hired gun.

The dvd transfer is exceptional.  There's terrific depth, and even with the 1.33:1 framing Stevens gives to the film, it feels "big!"  The depth and clarity to the transfer are evident in the texture made so visible in the costumes.  The color scheme is also wonderful, and is flawless represented here, without artifacts or grain!

There's also a wonderful commentary featuring George Stevens Jr and Ivan Moffat.  While there's plenty of behind-the-scenes info given out that will make every fan of Hollywood lore pleased, there's also a sense of admiration for George Stevens that captures the listener as well.  This is a real treasure!!!
