SRP $29.99 1.85:1(16:9) DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 PARAMOUNT

A bomb at the theaters, "SERVING SARA," while not great, is still entertaining enough to recommend on dvd.  Matthew Perry stars as a process server, Joe,  hired to serve Elizabeth Hurley, Sara, by her rich, cheating, mean husband, Bruce Campbell.

After meeting Sara, she convinces him to renege on his assignment, choosing instead to work for her, and serve her husband papers.  The rest of the film follows these two while they must avoid from her being served by two other servers hired by the husband.

Soon enough, the two fall in love, but that's where the film is most unconvincing. There's not a minute of real chemistry between these two. Hurley never comes across as being beautiful enough or classy enough to win this guy's heart, let alone anyone else's!

Screenwriters Jay Scherick and David Ronn, responsible for the brilliant, overlooked "I SPY" Eddie Murphy remake, don't provide the same level of non-stop, witty banter they achieved in that film. Still, there are some great laughs, and while too few, they're memorable.

PARAMOUNT has provided the correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio, with 16:9 enhancement.  The image is fine, although colors appear a little subdued.  The detail is sharp, and contrast is excellent, with deep blacks and grays. Fleshtones appear natural throughout.

PARAMOUNT has provided a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. While it's not aggressive, there are some big surround moments, and the music is well complimented in all speakers.  Most directional effects are front-focused. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.

PARAMOUNT has provided a number of extras for this release.

Director Reginald Hudlin provides a running commentary. Hudlin offers some amusing anecdotes, but it's mostly dry, and only modestly entertaining.

There are some funny outtakes, as well as deleted scenes.  None of the deleted scenes are memorable, but the outtakes are quite entertaining and worth a look.  A featurette is also offered, along with the film's trailer.
