BUENA VISTA has released yet another “RECESS” film, just in time for the holidays. “RECESS:CHRISTMAS” offers a surprisingly creative plotline, at least compared to what’s most common out there in children’s animation programming, and the characters are generally no more obnoxious than those found in the “Rugrats” movies. However, just as “RUGRATS IN PARIS” ended up becoming a little too long by the last third, so does “RECESS CHRISTMAS”, at least for adults. In keeping with the “holiday” spirit, a lot of the humor revolves around the kinds of questions posed in earlier “Peanuts” movies. Instead of “Does the Great Pumpkin exist?”, the question of whether “Santa” exists is raised. These and other dilemmas are explored with results that kids will enjoy and laugh over.
The
film is presented in its original 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The colors are vibrant
throughout the film and the detail is excellent! Even with some minor grain,
this is a slick looking transfer.
BUENA VISTA has chosen to offer both a Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 mix for this
release! While most of the soundmix is maintained with the front speakers,
there is some surround activity in spots. As with most DTS/DOLBY DIGITAL
comparisons, we found the DTS to offer better clarity and ambient sounds than
the Dolby Digital counterpart.
There are some shorts that are also offered wherein children cartoons discuss
elements of Christmas. There are also trailers for some other Disney releases.
