"PROXIMITY" is a direct-to-dvd action film, released from COLUMBIA TRISTAR. Rob Lowe stars as a former college professor whom uncovers a murderous conspiracy within the prison he's doing time in. Convicted of manslaughter for the death of one of his students during an accident while he was drinking, he's about to meet for a parole hearing. Unfortunately, the night before a fellow-prisoner/friend warns him about suspicious deaths in the prison. The next morning the prisoner is found dead, victim of an apparent suicide, or was it?
Instead of taking his chance at the parole hearing, Lowe runs for freedom ala
"
The Fugitive" after escaping an assassination attempt on his life within
the transport van he was traveling in.
The plot tries desperately to evoke memories of "THE FUGITIVE", but this film isn't in the same league, not at any level!
While the film is obviously low-budget, producer Joel Silver has succeeded in giving the film a "big" look. The production design of the film is impressive. COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented the film with its proper 1.85:1 aspect ratio and 16:9 enhancement.
The colors are solid and the image is well polished throughout! Fleshtones appear consistently natural. The contrast is fine with deep blacks and grays.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is extremely aggressive! There is an abundance of effective, directional effects, and not just during the action sequences! While the "on-the-lam" scenes offer their share of surround effects, the rest of the film has a genuinely, effective, 3-dimensional atmosphere. The LFE channel adds greatly to the action sequence's impact.
The theatrical trailer is included.
