SRP $29.99 1.78:1 DTS-HD MA 5.1 MAGNOLIA

Too violent to be a kid's film, and a little too predictable/silly for most adults, "POWER KIDS" is a strange hybrid. Four kids grow up, attending a the same Thai boxing school, and becoming best of friends in the process. One of them, Wuk, has a bad heart, and in a silly, unoriginal scene, he suffers a heart attack. A heart has been found for Wuk, in the nick of time, when another child dies. Unfortunately, a group of terrorists has taken over the hospital wherein the heart lies on ice. It's now up to the best friends to eliminate the existing threat to getting the heart within the amount of time, necessary for a transplant. So, there is a lot of violence, along with some spectacular martial arts sequences.

It's not even remotely hard to guess what's going to happen, but "POWER KIDS" is well shot, edited and directed. The pacing is fast enough to overcome the limitations of the thin plotline.  And, while not for youngsters, it's the kind of film adults and older kids can enjoy together.

MAGNOLIA has provided the correct 1.78:1 aspect ratio for this MPEG-4 1080p blu-ray.  Colors are impressive at times, but for every scene presented right, there are others wherein they appear to be all over the place. Blacks are deep, but never inky and the overall image, while decent, isn't in the same league as some of the superior MAGNOLIA blu-ray releases.

MAGNOLIA has provided a DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix.  There are two listening options, one option with a English dubbed mix, and the other in Thai.  It's not a spectacular mix, but it is effective in a few scenes. The dubbing is horrible, and the advantages of selecting the original Thai language mix,  are impressive. Dialogue sounds slightly muffled in both mixes, within a few scenes. But, in general "POWER KIDS" makes for some great entertainment, likely to please adults as well as the youngest.

Trailers for other MAGNOLIA films are offered, along with featurettes(only in standard resolution, however!) It's a love or hate kind of film and most will hedge towards the "great"
