COLUMBIA TRISTAR keeps doing it again and again. Let's hope they continue! They're a studio unafraid of releasing their more modest films with both wide screen, full frame options, as well as 16:9 enhancement, deleted scenes and audio commentary. Director Don Roos is a well regarded screenwriter and his debut as director/writer is extremely impressive. The complex but involving plot has Christina Ricci as a totally despicable 16 yr old girl bent on manipulating everyone around her. Going into the plot would reveal too much, but suffice it to say it depicts the questions revolving around intimacy, love and sex in a mature and honest manner. One of the few films in which homosexuality isn't portrayed as an abomination but as a means to explore issues of social responsibility. The deleted scenes are interesting, but it should be obvious why they were deleted, and, if not, there's an option in which the director explains why himself. His audio commentary for the entire film is also an option! The picture is extremely sharp, although there are some scenes which are too dark. The fleshtones are perfect. The Dolby Surround sound has a minimal amount of directional effects, but music is utilized effectively in almost every scene.
