SRP $29.99 1.33:1 DOLBY DIGITAL SURROUND BUENA VISTA HOME ENTERTAINMENT

BUENA VISTA has just released the most recent version of the Helen Keller/Annie Sullivan story.  "THE MIRACLE WORKER" stars the overused Hallie Kate Eisenberg as Helen.  Staying basically true to the play, the script focuses on Keller as a little girl and the amazing circumstances with which she must overcome.  Being blind and deaf, the only way she can communicate is through tantrums and moans.  This changes when Annie Sullivan "The Miracle Worker" enters the picture.  Sullivan is played by Allison Elliot(The Underneath) a former model turned actress, and she's quite good here, alternating seamlessly between being sympathetic and necessarily demanding to Helen.  The turbulence of the their relationship isn't as emotionally gratifying to watch unfold as it deserves to be, partly due to Eisenberg not having the emotional range necessary.  She's not horrible, but she's certainly not good either.  The part of Helen really deserves a fine actress.

BUENA VISTA HOME ENTERTAINMENT has given this a wonderful presentation.  It's presented in the same 1.33:1 aspect ratio of its television performance, so it's without 16:9 enhancement. There's excellent detail in even the darkest scenes.  There is some minor artifacting, however, it's never distracting.  The color values are solid, with often vibrant hues.  Fleshtones appear natural throughout.

BUENA VISTA has presented "THE MIRACLE WORKER" in stereo.  There's some directional sound towards the front soundstage, but the surround mix is non-existent.  Dialogue is always intelligible and free of distortion.
