DISNEY has re-released their animated film, “MEET THE ROBINSONS” once more, only this time, finally, in blu-ray3d!
While we noted with the previous release, “MEET THE ROBINSONS” is far from the typical family-film fare one would normally associate with the studio. There are funny, quirky characters, and female characters, in keeping with more thoughtful deliberation, are more than just caricatures. And, “MEET THE ROBINSONS” has an underlying sweetness to it, alongside its humor and thrills. But, this film is also often just bizarre! It’s not the unsettling kind of bizarre, however, it’s hard to not occasionally feel the need to turn and try gauging others’ responses to what’s being displayed on screen at times, as some events just feel intentionally ajar to typical “DISNEY-esque” family entertainment.
The 2d blu-ray, also included, is of the exact same excellent quality as it was in its earlier, original blu-ray release.
Colors are rich and vibrant on both 2d and 3d formats. The blu-ray3d release provides a 1.85:1 aspect ratio for this MVC MPEG-4 1080p blu-ray. In keeping with the near psychedelic color design, various hues are frequently pushed to extremes. However, this 3d display allows the colors to feel even more aligned with the storyline than the 2d version. The very slight reduction in brightness, actually benefits the color design in exactly the appropriate manner it requires! While a few of the depth-intended shots feel a bit manipulative, most of the imagery is correctly enhanced with the vantage of swirling objects popping off of the screen. The time-travel effects looked terrific in 2d, but it’s obvious when viewing them in 3d, that this is the appropriate way to view it and “MEET THE ROBINSONS.” It’s not up there with the best blu-ray3d releases from the studio, but it’s certainly the best way to view this film and it’s far better than most previous blu-ray3d releases from any studio.
Some may recall the previous 2d blu-ray version of this film only offered a LPCM 5.1 mix. DISNEY has included that same mix for the 2d blu-ray included herein, but the blu-ray3d release receives a DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix. While it’s hard to identify a major difference between the two mixes, this blu-ray 3d mix, provides a fun, engaging use of bass and high-pitched sound effects, creating a world loaded with immersive, panning effects, alongside crystal clear dialogue and a wonderful Danny Elfman score, all balanced to perfection with beautiful fidelity!
Along with interactive games, a music video(standard resolution), deleted scenes(HD) and a featurette(HD), a surprisingly engaging commentary with the film’s director is offered, and well recommended
