The first thing you'll notice when playing this title, providing you own a Dolby Digital receiver, is the incredible sound mix!  Even during the opening credits, the atmosphere of a dungeon surrounds the viewer with elaborate directional effects.  In addition to the sensational dolby digital 5.1, the picture is also exquisite!  The historical period surrounding France in the time of Louis XIV is stunning to look at, and the fleshtones and contrast ensure that the various costumes and settings come to life.   The audio commentary from writer/director Randall Wallace, is often worthwhile, and one can't help but feel disappointed that his passion didn't entirely translate to what's on screen in terms of plot.  He mentions that he wanted a "serious" translation of the tale, yet one must wonder why he includes horribly weak comedic moments throughout the film.
