SRP $24.98 2.35:1(16:9) P&S DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 NEW LINE

"In the Mouth of Madness" is one of John Carpenter's scariest films!  It's also his strangest, and will certainly confuse many of his mainstream fans.  Sam Neill stars as an investigator tracking down a best selling Stephen King type author, whose latest book is driving readers insane.  The opening sequence clearly demonstrates the kind of active dolby digital 5.1 mix being offered on this dvd, and it packs a whallop!  It doesn't let up much at all throughout the film, and neighbors will probably complain(ours did!)

The transfer is quite impressive.  Even with some very dark sequences, the contrast was excellent and colors were perfect, albeit intentionally subdued.  There's a great commentary(the same one offered on laserdisc) featuring Carpenter and cinematographer Gary B. Kibbe.
