MAD ABOUT YOU
COLUMBIA TRISTAR was one of the first major studios to begin releasing some of their finer television series onto dvd. Their previously released “ALL IN THE FAMILY”, and “THE JEFFERSONS” offer unique, if imperfect in quality, dvd additions to any collection. The popular, Emmy winning series, “MAD ABOUT YOU” is one of their newest tv-on-dvd offerings.
Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt star in this comedy series, dealing in a generally honest way with the highs and lows of being married and trying to keep that spark alive, irregardless of the situations and people trying to pour water on it.
Reiser plays Paul Buchman, a documentary filmmaker, and Hunt plays “Jamie”, whom as the series begins, have been married for five months.
With each ensuing episode, new guests, including Steven Wright, appear, offering great performances, and even more reason to watch the series. With all the variety of comedy series, dealing with family life that have been out there for years, it’s surprising to see so many episodes, one after another, that feel genuine and entertaining. The series starts off being very good, and actually continues to improve with each episode!
COLUMBIA
TRISTAR has included all 22 episodes of the first season in this release.
Unfortunately, the packaging is less-than-desirable, offered in a non-sturdy
cardboard gatefold.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented the release in its proper 1.33:1 aspect ratio.
It’s generally pleasing, with good color levels, and natural fleshtones. The
contrast is fine, but some of the darker scenes lack the definition of superior
COLUMBIA TRISTAR releases.
The Dolby 2.0 stereo mix is adequate, offering dialogue with perfect clarity, and some ambient effects. The show’s atmosphere adds greatly to its success, and the subtle surround mix, as well as the music come across well here.
