One of the most eagerly awaited laserdiscs, "The Little Mermaid", is now
available on laserdisc. It's been available before on laser in full frame version,
but the pressing was limited, making its availability rare and costly. Now, it's not
only affordable, but greatly improved! The new remastered version is in its proper
aspect ratio(1.66:1) and also includes a Dolby Digital soundtrack, offering greater range
to its music and effects. The picture is sharper with striking color and contrast.
The chapter index has all of film's memorable songs marked. This
laserdisc won't wear from the numerous repeated viewings as our child's videotape did!
While "Hercules" is available in both Dolby Digital and DTS formats on laser,
we prefer the DTS version. The musical numbers are produced on a grand scale, and
the minimal compression inherent with the DTS format, makes all of the music and effects
elements more distinguished. While few of the songs are as memorable as "The
Little Mermaid" soundtrack, the characters are terrific, including James Woods
as Hades, the demon out to rule the universe. The picture is of the same high
quality as the Dolby Digital version, offering a slick look to the colorful compositions.
The chapter index features seperate chapters for each song.
