Paul Schrader's "Light Sleeper" is one of his best works of the past two decades. While "Mishima" and "Comfort of Strangers" were interesting, they were not accessible for the masses due to its peculiar narrative structure. "Light Sleeper" has a strong compelling narrative and the main characters are sympathetic and totally against type.
The DVD transfer is excellent in spite of the fact it's not letterboxed. While the laserdisc transfer was also full frame, we would've prefered to see a properly letterboxed version on DVD due to the benefits of the technology. Why not throw in all the bells and whistles? The fleshtones and contrast are excellent. No artifacts! In addition, the mono sound is fine.

ARTISAN ENTERTAINMENT has finally released their "special editon" of "Earth Girls Are Easy" and we couldn't be happier! This is kind of a buried treasure. Jim Carrey's great as one of the loveable aliens trying to find a mate on earth, but so is the rest of the cast, including Jeff Goldblum and others. Geena Davis has never looked better, and for those who haven't thought of her as attractive, just check out her song number in a platinum blond wig and lingerie! The music is inconsistant, sometimes catchy and endearing, other times completely forgettable. There's a great deal of supplementary material, including deleted scenes and more!
The 2.35:1 transfer is excellent and welcome. The previous pan&scan laserdisc suffered immeasurably from cropping. Now, the vast, well-conceived compositions of director Julian Temple are fully realized. The Dolby Surround sound has fine clarity and directional effects
