LET IT RIDE

 Every now and then, a small but hilarious comedy is discovered.  This was the case when this reviewer finally watched “LET IT RIDE” in this PARAMOUNT dvd presentation.   Richard Drefuss stars as a recovering gambler, who after getting a reliable tip on a horse race, cant’ help but head off to the tracks with his best friend, David Johansen.  Johansen gives one of the best, funniest, and overlooked performances in film history. Dreyfuss ends up on a winning streak and decides to continue to “let it ride” throughout the day, as he, fellow gamblers, and the audience cheer him on, curious as to how long his winning streak can last. 

PARAMOUNT has preserved the film’s 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement.  The image is excellent with vibrant colors and great detail. Fleshtones appear natural throughout.  The contrast is terrific too, with deep blacks and greys. 

 

PARAMOUNT is offering a dolby digital 5.1 mix along with a Dolby 2.0 mix.  The Dolby digital 5.1 mix offers more directional effects in the front soundstage than the 2.0 mix, but rear effects are virtually non-existent.  The dialogue is intelligible and free from distortion on both mixes.
