While “LEGALLY BLONDE” wasn’t a masterpiece, it was genuinely entertaining in a way that few “girl-centered” comedies generally had been.  The light, but endearing Elle Woods, earned her law degree and a major criminal case in the previous film, and a job at one of Boston’s most prestigious law firms. While the “surprises” of the previous courtroom comedy were less than credible, at least they weren’t completely insane. However, as “LEGALLY BLONDE 2” opens, the viewer is asked to believe Elle is basically stupid or mentally ill enough to put her pending wedding to Emmett on hold, until she finds the mother of her Chihuahua. No, this is really the basis for the plot!!!

Having tracked the dog down to a facility wherein animals are experimented upon, Elle makes it her fight to end animal cruelty. This, of course, necessitates that she head to Washington and meet/influence lawmakers. (It gets worse!) Elle is able to move hardened politicians over by her charm alone and without any strong arguments, helping win her a position working for a Congresswoman, Victoria Rudd. (Sally Fields), winning over a conservative Representative, after they both realize their pets are gay, and turning the establishment on its head!  Unfortunately, most viewers will be standing on their head, or jumping out windows, while the movie unfolds. “LEGALLY BLONDE 2” almost makes “GODFATHER 3” look good!

MGM/FOX has provided a 1.85:1 aspect ratio for this AVC MPEG-4 1080p blu-ray release.  Colors, matching an over-the-top production design, better suited for Liberace, are vibrant, without over-saturation.  While grain is occasionally present, it’s never intrusive. The detail varies from scene-to-scene, either looking terrific or a bit flat. The image is generally better than the dvd presentation, but not substantially.

MGM/FOX has provided a DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix. This lossy mix is impressive, especially for a comedy. Discrete and panning effects are used creatively, and to boost the songs of the soundtrack(best part of the mix). Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.

Extras include an audio commentary with three of the actresses appearing in the film, but not Witherspoon. It gets dull, quickly!

Deleted scenes are offered, including an alternate ending, but none are memorable. These are only presented in standard resolution.

A gag reel, and featurettes around the (forgettable)score, the dog, production design and more are included.

The theatrical trailer is presented in 1080p.
