While some critics have been hard on "THE JUNGLE BOOK," it's actually one of the better films from DISNEY, and it's received a special edition on dvd for its "40th" anniversary. Based on Rudyard Kipling's novel, it takes a lot of liberties and is toned down in its tougher aspects, vying for humor over tension. Of course, the ending is more in keeping with Kipling's atmosphere and it's moving and just right. Those unacquainted with Mowgli and Baloo, will quickly find them and this tale endearing.
BUENA VISTA has presented the image with the correct theatrical aspect ratio of 1.75:1 with 16:9 enhancement. It's never been displayed in letterbox before and the remaster is flawless! Colors are rich and vibrant throughout, and the overall brightness and detail is notably better than the previous dvd release.
BUENA VISTA has also remastered the audio mix with DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1. It's outstanding. While surrounds aren't noteworthy, there's enhanced dynamic range over the previous dvd version, and separation effects are consistently energizing the front soundstage with great fidelity.
Some of the extras include a great audio commentary, deleted songs and numerous featurettes.
A 2nd disc offers games, interviews and a great "behind-the-making of" examination of the film.
