PARAMOUNT will be releasing "JACKASS: THE MOVIE" shortly, but for now fans of this MTV runaway hit anthology/display of unquestionably disturbed individuals willing to do outrageous things for laughs, will have to suffice with a two volume presentation from the show, "MTV JACKASS VOLUMES 2&3." And, no, there never was a "volume 1."
Johnny Knoxville, whom some might remember as the alien with two heads in "Men In Black 2," is the main "stuntman" leading a following of circus freaks, as they perform a collection of humiliating, hard-to-watch, sideshows. As the title suggests, this is absolutely going to offend some audiences. Do you find the idea of watching a bunch of kids "rack" a grown man, repeatedly? Does visualizing a man putting his arm up the rear of a cow appeal to you? If so, you're going to love this volume!
Volume 3 offers more disgusting oddities, including a "sperm-a-thon," someone riding in an "outhouse", and more! While this reviewer found most of the "stunts" within these volumes repulsive to watch, not all of the show is like a car accident one feels compelled to watch. Some of it is actually "not" gross, and down-right funny!
PARAMOUNT has preserved the original full frame ratio for these volumes. Because part of the show's success has to do with the performer's ability to "perform" on the spot, various formats of media are used, vhs, hi8mm, etc. The image to this transfer, in turn, varies throughout the program. Generally, and surprisingly, the image offers bright and well-balanced colors. But, there are moments where color and contrast suffer. In spirit of the "amateur" type of footage offered, it doesn't affect the overall viewer satisfaction.
PARAMOUNT offers a Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo mix. It's not bad, but for the same reasons already mentioned, fidelity varies in quality. It's of average quality, but one doesn't watch "JACKASS" to demonstrate their top quality sound system.
