GENEON-Ikki Tousen It must be hard to stand out as an animated series within the Japanime entries bursting at the seams these days.  Somehow, a new entry, “IKKI TOUSEN” does just that, and is generally pretty entertaining.

Seven high schools in Japan are fighting for domination of their region.  Hakufi, a hot, busty teen, enjoys great fighting skills and is seen as a threat by many adversaries coming out of the woodwork to challenge
her constantly.  Some wonder if she’s the legendary fighter prophesized from the “west.” Her prowess seems to suggest she is, bringing about even further drama.  It’s hard to understand why the creators wanted her character to be so dumb, but dumb she is, and hot(for a cartoon).  In addition to numerous fight scenes, there are plenty of sexual comments concerning her “boobs” and more, as we see her jiggle non-stop as well as plenty of underwear shots. Don’t ask why? There’s no good answer. Still, the show moves along at a good pace and it manages to entertain.

Colors are solid throughout and the detail is impeccable. It’s a great looking transfer.

GENEON has provided stereo soundmixes with either English or Japanese options. This DVD has stereo soundtracks in both Japanese and English.  Both sound great and the dubbing features voices that are complimentary. There’s not a lot of separation, but what’s there sounds fine. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
