A real classic from Disney, "THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME" , is now available on dvd with some notable extras!  Tom Hulce and Demi Moore lend their voices as the leads in this tale of the disfigured lug in love with the beautiful gypsy, Esmerelda.  The tale is actually much darker than most Disney fanfare, but there are also enough light-hearted moments, as well as lovable supporting characters to make this enjoyable for children of all ages.  While it's a musical, there's really no one "memorable" song, but, again, the story is terrific, and the animation is boggling at times!  

BUENA VISTA has preserved the film's 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement.  The image is flawless!  Colors are vibrant in every instance, and the contrast is impeccable! There's incredible detail, no matter how dark the scene.

BUENA VISTA also deserves credit for including both a Dolby Digital "and" DTS 5.1 soundmix!  This is one of the busiest soundmixes for an animated film that we've heard so far!  There are layers-upon-layers of directional effects taking place, alongside the rich score, and dialogue, and everything is discernible and well-focused!  Surrounds are utilized throughout the film with great affect!  There are also some terrific instances of LFE track effects.  While the Dolby Digital mix is excellent, the DTS mix offers noticeably richer bass, and the surrounds are a little more active as well.

There are some worthwhile extras included here as well!  A lengthy featurette, "THE MAKING OF THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME" is hosted by Jason Alexander.  There are plenty of interviews included, as well as "behind-the-scenes" footage and information. 

There is also a running commentary with the film's directors.  While there's plenty of technical information for fans, it's also light-hearted and engrossing!  These guys are having a blast, and so does the listener! 

"A GUY LIKE YOU" is a segment running a few minutes, allowing viewers to appreciate the dubbing required for overseas presentations, offering samples of the film's star in many languages!
