Disney has gotten a lot of flack for some incomprehensible reason with their latest animated films, and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" has also received some criticism. To be honest, it's not the "typical" Disney film of decades ago. But, one needs to take risks to discover greatness, and that's exactly what Disney has done with their adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel. Darker than "Little Mermaid" and featuring a sexy gypsy who is lusted after by the cartoon's villian, it may be above the level of children in some places, but they won't lose interest and adults are certain to appreciate the hidden humor. The animation is spectacular, and the transfer captures every minute detail perfectly. the Dolby Digital surround soundmix is active in almost every scene and adds significantly to the film's magic.

Disney has released a "restored" version of the animated classic, "The Jungle Book". "Restored" must mean "toned down" because the colors are noticeably restrained in comparison to the last laser edition of the film. The transfer quality is truly a subjective opinion in this case. Although this reviewer was pleased with the general tone of images, some may prefer the louder colors in the previous version. The Dolby surround sound is more of an objective opinion. It offers much more directionality than previous versions. A documentary is also included.
