HUMAN TRAFFIC
BUENA VISTA HOME ENTERTAINMENT has released "HUMAN TRAFFIC" on dvd.
The film has a very loose narrative structure, focusing more on characters than
content. Unfortunately, the characters in this film aren't that
interesting or endearing. Intended to be a comedy, "HUMAN
TRAFFIC" explores the lives of its mid-20's characters as they experiment
with drugs, and fantasize about a better life. In this sense, it
definitely aspires to be like "TRAINSPOTTING," but it doesn't come
close to that film in terms of originality or in character development.
While there are some genuinely funny and disturbing scenes, most of the film
plays like recycled material.
There are only so many "obvious" jokes that can be made about pop
bands like "The Spice Girls." While there is supposed to be an
enigmatic charm to these characters having intelligent opinions, none of the
characters come off as bright or insightful!
The transfer is presented with the proper 1.85:1 aspect ratio and 16:9
enhancement. The colors are extremely solid and fleshtones are perfectly
natural. There is great resolution and no artifacting.
The dolby digital 5.1 soundmix is surprisingly passive. It's surprising to
hear a film intending to focus on atmosphere and rave-like environments,
possess such a low-key surround environment. Even when directional effects
are employed, they're almost muted.
