Cary Grant and Sophia Loren star in “HOUSEBOAT”, available from PARAMOUNT.  The story is simplistic.  Grant is a widower living on a “HOUSEBOAT” with his children, whom upon hiring a beautiful nanny(Sophia Loren) finds himself falling in love.  Without raising any weighty questions as to whether she’s the right woman for him or as a stepmother to his children, this light comedy deals with everything in a pleasant, albeit totally unrealistic way.  The film also makes no attempt whatsoever to define the children as anything more than props,

PARAMOUNT has offered the film with its proper 1.85:1 aspect ratio(VistVision) and 16:9 enhancement.  The image, although generally pleasing, varies in quality.  The picture offers excellent detail and resolution,, however a few scenes appear soft.  There is also some infrequent artifacting. 

PARAMOUNT has offered the original monaural mix for this release.  While dialogue is always intelligible it’s not nearly as clear as many other PARAMOUNT monaural mixes.  We needed to raise the volume levels significantly higher for this release.
