A Hong Kong film, recently released on dvd from BUENA VISTA HOME ENTERTAINMENT, “THE HEROIC TRIO,” is one of the best surprises of 2002.
The “Invisible Woman,” played by Michelle Yeoh, is responsible for using her cloaking powers to kidnap babies to fulfill the world domination goals of her master, the “Demon-lord of the Underworld.”
The wife of a police detective, Tung, is a masked heroine. She’s using her powers to save the missing children as well as preventing new kidnappings. A great character named Chat, looks great in leather, rides a motorcycle, and makes a living by grabbing the kidnapped children and returning them to their rightful parents for the reward. All of these women, through a variety of links, revealed in flashback sequences, are connected to one another. They are the “HEROIC TRIO.”
This terrific adventure blends just the right amount of action and humor to make for a great viewing experience for even the most jaded viewer.
BUENA VISTA HOME ENTERTAINMENT has provided the correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio for this release, with 16:9 enhancement. While it’s not up there with the best BUENA VISTA transfers, it’s still quite good. Colors are generally solid. There is some minor grain, but contrast is decent, allowing for detail in darker sequences. Fleshtones appear natural throughout.
BUENA VISTA HOME ENTERTAINMENT has provided a Dolby Digital 2.0 surround mix. While there’s only a dubbed version, it’s not that bad, as far as dubbing goes. There are some surround moments, but directional effects are focused towards the front. Fidelity is good, and dialogue is intelligible and free from distortion.
The theatrical trailer is included.
