How can a film directed by Mike Nichols and starring
Jack Nicholson
and Meryl Streep, be only “ok?” Well, mostly because the script from
Nora Ephron is lousy! Even the incredible supporting cast, which
includes Kevin Spacey, can’t raise the film above its mediocrity.
Based on her novel detailing her failed marriage to reporter Carl
Bernstein, it’s never feels honest and it’s never compelling.
PARAMOUNT has preserved the film’s 1.85:1 aspect
ratio with 16:9
enhancement. Colors are solid and the overall image is fine. There is
some infrequent grain in various seasons.
PARAMOUNT has provided both a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix
and a monaural
mix. While the 5.1 offers a pleasant environment for the wonderful
music and theme song, there are no surround effects. Dialogue is
always intelligible and free from distortion. The monaural sound
offers fine fidelity, but is not as pleasant as the 5.1 mix.
