The cult classic, "HAROLD AND MAUDE" has made its way to dvd with a splendid transfer and dolby digital 5.1 remastering, courtesy of PARAMOUNT HOME VIDEO.  A black-comedy,  Bud Cort stars  as a young boy with a (arguably) psychotic obsession with death.  After meeting and falling in love with an older(way older!) woman, he learns more than he expected.  It's to the filmmaker's credit, that the film is never apologetic in relation to its characters.  The audience is expected to grow, not the film's characters.

The 16:9 enhancement adds to the color values of the transfer, but Director Hal Ashby's palate is still subdued, and there's some grain in spots.  The dolby digital 5.1 sound is a great addition, offering some directional effects, but mostly making one really appreciate the talent of Cat Stevens as a musician before he went bonkers.

One of the best of the "STAR TREK" film series, "STAR TREK 2:THE WRATH OF KHAN" has finally made it to dvd.  Ricardo Montalban reprises his role from the original tv seriesas the genetically enhanced villain.  Kirstie Alley has never(and we mean "never") looked as beautiful as she does here.  Starting with a great "twist" of a beginning and building upon the momentum of surprise after surprise, the film has a terrific pace, aided greatly by Nicholas Meyer's direction.

The dvd transfer is wonderful!  The colors are vibrant, with outstanding depth and clarity.  The contrast is perfect, and there's not grain anywhere.  The dolby digital 5.1 sound offers an abundance of directional effects, and the LFE channel offers great explosion assistance.
