GROSSE POINTE BLANK

John Cusack plays an assassin returning home for his 10 year high-school reunion in "Grosse Pointe Blank". Of course he ends up facing the girlfriend he left behind, a plot to kill him, and more in this typically funny off-beat film. The supporting cast, Alan Arkin, Dan Aykroyd and others, are often props. It's a shame because both Arkin's portrayal as the young man's personal psychologist in fear for his life, and Aykroyd as the assasination supervisor, are individually interesting. The image generally looks sharp, with accurate fleshtones and correct framing. The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is the real star of the film, showcasing a fabulous score of songs from the 80s as well as numerous directional effects.
