Joe Dante's last huge hit, Gremlins, is certain to make a nice DVD gift this Christmas. Besides the fact that Gizmo, and all the other gremlins are more clearly defined and sharper than ever, the wonderful score and sound effects are fully realized now, thanks to the new Dolby Digital 5.1 encoding offered on this release. The scene in which Gizmo first sings, has substantially more charm than ever before. The cuteness and warmth behind the use of music and scenes like this have a lot to do with the film's overall magic, and viewers will realize there's a lot more to the film than previously discernible on the Dolby Surround laser disc.
