Clive Owen stars as a prisoner whom may have found he can put his hands to good use rather than criminal behavior through the act of gardening! To reward his recent good behavior, he's offered the chance to complete his sentence at a medium security prison. With the support and encouragement of his new cellmate, he makes a half-hearted attempt to grow something in the prison garden, and is encouraged when his "greenfingers" actually allowed something to grow!
The film is a little predictable at times. We know when he meets his cellmate's daughter, "something" is going to happen to them, but, alas, we want it to, and we're pleased when it does. The film has a genuine sweetness to it, without being overly-sentimental. The cast is wonderful, and Owen proves, again, he's a genuinely likeable guy, deserving of even more substantial work.
The COLUMBIA TRISTAR transfer preserves the
film's 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. The color values are
solid, and contrast is perfect, offering deep blacks and grays. Overall,
the image is extremely well-polished.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is somewhat
restrained. While the dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion,
the surround mix is used primarily to boost the film's score, and offer some
atmospheric effects.
