GREAT MUPPET CAPER

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has released several of the “MUPPET” films recently.  One of the best, “THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER” is now available too.  While all of the series are entertaining in spots, “THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER” offers more “inside” jokes than the rest, with the exception of “MUPPETS FROM SPACE”.   In this film, Kermit and his muppet friends venture to England to get a big story for the paper they’re employed with.  The supporting cast of “live” actors includes Diana Rigg, Charles Grodin, and many other fine actors.  Grodin is especially funny, and he has to be to match wits with the mupppet characters here.  While muppets are the stars of the film, adult viewers should appreciate the fine talents of John Cleese and Peter Ustinov in cameo appearances. 

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented the film with its proper 1.85:1 aspect ratio and 16:9 enhancement.  Unfortunately, the presentation could’ve been much sharper.  The film looks extremely grainy in spots, and the colors values are restrained for the most part.  Muppets should look much more colorful than they do here! 

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has done a better job with the soundmix.  Remixed for Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, wherein there are some fun surround moments as well as decent separation, though generally focused towards the score.
