The Graduate is finally out on dvd and it's been worth the wait.  In addition to a properly preserved aspect ratio, there's actually extras!  Besides a one on one interview section with Dustin Hoffman, there's a featurette celebrating the 25th anniversary of the film.  The transfer has a few artifacts, but overall, the fleshtones are excellent and the image sharp.  The dolby digital stereo isn't quite as fine-tuned as we'd hoped, but we prefer it to the mono version.  This film is a classic, every bit as funny today as when it opened a generation ago, it's even more enjoyable on dvd.

Director Mario Van Peebles creates some exciting moments in his revisionist western "Posse", in which african americans get more credit than they've given before in shaping and taming the west.  Extremely violent, the widescreen imagery is often stunning to look at, and now with this sharp dvd transfer, it's been given its due. A pan&scan version is also offered, but it pales in comparison to the widescreen version. The dolby surround is extremely active with plenty of directional effects.   A trailer is also included.

A truly bizarre comedy, "Shallow Grave" gets a little too gruesome for some audiences, but it's energetic and often hilarious.  The plot follows three roommates whom find the body of a friend, along with a suitcase filled with cash.  Getting rid of the body becomes more troubling than they could have imagined.  The transfer is excellent with perfect contrast and sharpness in every scene.  The surround sound isn't very active, but this isn't a film needy of directional effects.  The 1.85:1 transfer is perfect, as well as the preffered version.
