This dvd has been worth the long wait! Ghostbusters comes to dvd with not only an
outstanding transfer, but plenty of extras as well. While the previously available
Criterion laserdisc special edition was impressive, its picture quality varied from scene
to scene. However, the image to the dvd transfer is stupendous throughout!
There's sharp detail to every scene, and this sometimes diminishes the special
effects, making them appear dated by today's standards, which they are! Still,
"GHOSTBUSTERS" is great fun. The story about a ghosthunting unit formed
after a University budget crunch closes down a parasychology department, is filled with
laughs, surprises, and big budget design. The dvd offers commentary with Director
Reitman and writer Harold Ramis as well as storyboards, deleted scenes, documentaries and
more. The dolby digital 5.1 sound offers an excellent sound mix, really highlighting
the terrific Elmer Bernstein score as well as directional effects. HOORAY!

This extremely disappointing sequel to the original "Ghostbusters",
"Ghostbusters 2", at least gets a wonderful transfer here. The aspect
ratio(2.35:1) is intact, and the production design is still quite impressive, boasting
elaborate color schemes, perfectly captured in this pristine transfer. The dolby
digital 5.1 sound mix is just as active and engaging as in the original film.

An intelligent script that pays homage to Frank Capra as well as many other films,
helps make ""Hero" a worthwhile experience. The pacing drags it down
at times, but ultimately, it's a moving film, with enough humor to make this a fine
viewing during the holiday season. The cast, headed by Dustin Hoffman, Andy Garcia,
and Geena Davis, is excellent.
The transfer is excellent, with great clarity, and minimal artifacts. The
fleshtones are consistent throughout. The dolby surround sound is active, but mostly
for musical separation rather than directional effects.

One of the most improperly maligned films of the '90s, "Hudson Hawk" finally
gets some decent treatment in this transfer from COLUMBIA TRISTAR. Director Michael
Lehman has created a film that's great fun, with the same tongue-in-cheek approach of
"Raiders of the Lost Ark". Willis' character is reminiscent of the
wisecracker he portrayed on "Moonlighting", but there's more depth to him here.
The supporting cast, including Sandra Bernhard, is wonderful.
The dvd transfer looks far superior to that of the full frame laserdisc version, with
accurate 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The color values are much sharper as well, with
excellent contrast and definitiion. The dolby surround sound offers a fair share of
directional effects. Even more impressive, director Lehman offers his audio
commentary on an alternate track, giving insight into the film's complications as well as
why it may have failed.
