FRANK McKLUSKY, C.I.
In spite of its frequent attempts to duplicate the setups and characters of “ACE VENTURA, PET DETECTIVE,” “FRANK McKLUSKY, C.I.” just doesn’t deliver. The star, Dave Sheridan, has proven some comic ability in previous minor film roles, but he doesn’t have the abilities to carry a film with a bad script, by virtue of his own talent, as Carrey was able to do in the first “VENTURA” film.
There are plenty of cameos here, but even Kevin Pollack and Andy Richter are given little to work with.
After
Sheridan’s father, a stuntman injured himself before a big feat, Frank’s mom,
Dolly Parton, became overprotective. She’s even gone so far as to have her son
wear a helmet practically 24/7! As the title states, Frank’s an insurance
claims investigator. When his partner is killed, he begins his mission to find
the killer. This assignment gives him an excuse to wear ridiculous disguises,
and none of them are funny, at least to adults. Children, however, may actually
find some of these scenes humorous. They’re certain to laugh at the toilet
humor that fills the rest of the film.
BUENA VISTA has presented the film with its correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio and 16:9 enhancement. While there are some noise problems, colors are generally solid. The detail is fine, and contrast is fine, with deep blacks and grays.
Although there’s a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix, there are no surround effects. There are some directional effects confined to the front speakers. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
There are three trailers included, but none for this film.
