Elle Macpherson looks more beautiful than ever before in "Sirens", but then the entire disc looks wonderful.  There are a few brief moments wherein artifacts are present, but the rest of the transfer is so sharp, and the colors so vibrant, that this can easily be overlooked.  The story about a minister led into temptation by the painter's nude models he's trying to save, is captivating and moving.  The film, while not fast-paced, is never slow.  In fact, we were saddened when it ended!   The dolby surround sound offers a variety of atmospheric effects.

This problematic anthology suffers from the same problem plaguing most films of the genre, it's uneven!!!  However, two of the stories, particularly Roberto Rodriguez's short with Antonio Banderas, are wonderful!  The other one by Tarantino, is wicked and witty.  Tim Roth plays a waiter serving as the conduit to each tale set within a hotel, but little else connects one story to the next.  The transfer is sharp, with flawless color and depth.  The dolby Surround sound is extremely active, really adding depth to the Rodriguez story.

Steve Martin's performance in "Father of the Bride" is excellent, but then the entire cast, including Martin Short, is wonderful!  Even more impressive is the production design for the film. The film simply "looks great" and the dvd transfer compliments the wonderful color scheme, as is evident in the opening credit sequence. The dolby Surround sound isn't extremely active, but there are some worthwhile effects in a few key sequences.

Woody Allen's homage to the mobster/screwball comedies of the 30's, "Bullets Over Broadway" is actually more enjoyable on dvd.  Its narrative and fast paced banter allows for more scrutiny on a small screen, and the comedy appears more broad.   The dvd transfer looks fine with accurate fleshtones and contrast.  The mono sound is unremarkable.

The team who brought us "Toy Story" is at it again, and "A Bug's Life" couldn't be better!  As much for adults as kids, it brings out the best elements of many genres, but particularly that of the "western".  With a grand score by Randy Newman, sounding terrific in the dolby digital 5.1 sound mix, the wide screen option allows for a more epic feel.  The clarity and depth of color on both the 1.33:1 and 2.35:1 options are just as sharp.  Because the film is computer generated, both options allow for similar compositions, though we prefer the letterboxed version.  The dolby digital 5.1 mix is rousing throughout the film!!!
