BUENA VISTA has released "From Dusk Till Dawn" on DVD without the extras
offered on the Special Edition laserdisc. Although it would have been nice to have
the outtakes and audio commentary that was included on that disc, we'll take the superior
picture quality offered here over that version anytime. In this tale of bank robbers
and the family they've taken hostage encountering a bar filled with vampires, much of the
action takes place at night in darker settings. With this in mind, the depth and
clarity of color is far superior in the DVD version. In every scene comparison, the
sharpness of the DVD wins hands down. Still, we wish that BUENA VISTA would start
offering 16:9 enhancement as so many other companies are now doing. The Dolby
Digital 5.1 sound is equivalent in quality to the laserdisc version with an extremely
active soundtrack and extensive use of LFE bass effects.

The plot to this tale, a doctor is damned to make a living through providing his
medical expertise to the mob, is truly compelling. And, although at times, it lives
up to its potential, more often it fails. For every original situation, there are
far more cliches. Duchovny is fine, but Timothy Hutton isn't believable as a tough
mobster for a moment.
The DVD transfer is excellent. Director Andy Wilson takes advantage of his
compositions(1.85:1) throughout the film, and the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound offers a
surreal, intense atmosphere, real oomph to action sequences, and great definition in
complex sequences, such as the opening nightclub sequence.

"Flubber", an updated version of the "Flubber" movies made decades
ago by Disney, still manages to delight youngsters. Not that it's not still
entertaining for the whole family, but, most of the humor is intended for the youngest
common denominator, unlike some Disney films. Williams is as usual, fantastic.
His eccentric comedy and improvisiations are perfect for the character he depicts.
The great advancements in special effects also improves the overall look of the
film.
The DVD transfer is first-rate! The framing is intact and fleshtones and depth
are perfect throughout the film. The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is where the transfer
really distinguishes itself though! There is an abundance of directional effects as
well as bass(LFE) throughout the film, truly creating a 3-d atmosphere.

"Highlander:The Final Dimension-Special Director's Cut" has just been made
available from the folks at Buena Vista. while fans of the first Highlander film may
be disappointed at the film's narrative in comparison to the earlier films, it's still fun
to watch in a campy way. The wide screen images look spectacular in this DVD
transfer with excellent contrast and fleshtones. Unfortunately, like all BUENA VISTA
DVD titles, this one hasn't been enhanced for 16:9 screens. The Dolby Surround sound
is adequate, offering various moments of rear speaker effects, but nothing
sensational. The extra footage included in this special edition does clarify some of
the more obvious problems of the theatrical version.
