THE FAN

Lauren Bacall stars in “THE FAN,” released on dvd from PARAMOUNT.  Not to be confused with the only-“slightly” better “THE FAN,” with Robert De Niro and Wesley Snipes, this “THE FAN” is about Douglas, a psychopath, (Michael Biehn) obsessed with aging actress Sally Ross(Bacall)to the point of writing her letters throughout the day, every day!  Disheartened at the standard form letter response he actually receives from Sally’s assistant, he’s pushed to the edge!  

Parts of “THE FAN” are actually bad enough to be unintentionally funny, but it’s never as fun as a really bad “stalker”-type film like “THE SEDUCTION” with Morgan Fairchild.  Everything that happens is predictable in every sense of the word. 

After doing this movie, Ms. Bacall probably didn’t have to worry about “fans” writing her. 

PARAMOUNT has provided the correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio for this release, with 16:9 enhancement.  Colors are generally solid, although the image is a bit soft at times.  The contrast is decent, with black and gray discernment, boosting the definition in darker scenes.  Fleshtones appear natural. 

PARAMOUNT has provided a Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono track. The fidelity range is decent, and dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion
