While we seriously hope HBO hurries and releases "ENTOURAGE" from its first season onward, to blu-ray, at least "The Complete Sixth Season" is now available in the format. With Vince getting a new lease on his acting career and success after the horrible movie selections of his past, his friends, (easily the most entertaining aspect of the series,) get even more focus in this season. While Turtle's exploits while at college, particularly his newfound charm on beautiful co-eds, may not seem believable, it's at least great entertainment! E, living on his own and getting his career going as an agent, is given the conflict arising from the love he still has for Sloane and its impact on his new girlfriend. With so many of this season's episodes focused largely on the events of a specific character, it has a slightly different feel than previous seasons, but, by the end of each episode, the overriding wit, warmth, and magic of the series as a whole, is certain to make any concerned, feeling amongst good friends.
Ari isn't the constant presence that he was previously, although his impact on characters is always palpable. Of course, whenever he is featured, the episode feels kicked up a notch in quality. As with previous seasons, it's easy for a viewer to wish for more Ari and less Vince, but "ENTOURAGE: THE COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON" demonstrates just how much part of the series' magic relies on the interplay and conflict arising between Ari and Vince's camp, even with Vince being much less interesting a character.
There's no shortage of beautiful girls in the entertainment industry, and "ENTOURAGE: THE COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON" continues to showcase this in numerous examples within every episode, but somehow, never succumbing to the all-too-common outcome of feeling cheap and exploitive. In fact, "ENTOURAGE: THE SIXTH SEASON" succeeds in making the viewer feel jazzed, and excited about Hollywood, or at least Hollywood as presented in this series!
HBO has provided the correct 1.78:1 aspect ratio for this AVC MPEG-4 1080p blu-ray. Colors are vibrant, and fleshtones are natural throughout. Detail is excellent and the elaborate production design of the series is well complimented, as presented here. A layer of grain is present, providing a film-quality that only enhances the presentation. Contrast is fine, but not as impressive as on many superior HBO blu-ray releases, due to blacks that are adequate but never inky.
HBO has presented a DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix. While front-focused, the surrounds kick in whenever one of the many great song selections of the series, is featured. There is plenty of separation in the front, with discrete, bass and some panning effects, combining to create an engaging, completely captivating experience. Even while recognizing limitations of the mix due to lack of a prominent surround presence, the overall listening experience is still quite fun!
Three episodes feature audio commentaries and offer moments as entertaining as the episodes themselves. Featurettes are offered in full HD.
