"Enemy of the State" is awsome entertainment!!! More importantly, it's an awsome dvd!!!  This non-stop action thriller is intelligent, and nerve-racking!!!   The dvd transfer is of high enough quality to rate this amongst the highest quality available.  (Together with "Rushmore", that's two from Buena Vista in the same month!) The transfer has flawless color clarity and contrast control, as well as perfect fleshtones.  The dolby digital 5.1 sound is virtually filled with non-stop directional effects.  A production featurette as well as theatrical trailer is also featured.

Director Frank Marshall is best known as a producer, and "Arachnophobia" marks his directoria debut.  It's not as skillfully made as his 2nd film, "Alive", but it's better acted, and much more fun!  Jeff Daniels stars as a doctor with a huge fear of spiders.  When a gigantic infestation of spiders arrive in the small town he's living in, he must overcome his fear to become an unlikely hero.   John Goodman provides great comic relief as an exterminator.

The dvd transfer is of fine quality.  While there's been sharper looking transfers from BUENA VISTA, the color levels are suitable and contrast is fine.  The dolby digital 5.1 soundtrack is where this release really shines.  In comparison to the previously available matrix surround laserdisc soundtrack, this is incredible!!!   There's great definition and an extremely active sound mix.

Tara Fitzgerald and Ewan McGregor star in this comedy about ex-lovers learning they're meant for each other.  Pete Postlethwaite also is on hand in another outstanding performance.  The film is intentionally small in scope, concentrating on characters rather than epic theme.  It works well as a small surprise with engaging dialogue, wonderful music and a genuine optimistic attitude.

The dvd transfer is excellent, actually surpassing the previously available laserdisc with sharper colors and clarity.  The dolby surround sound is fine, with effective but restrained directional effects.

One of the best films of the past decade!!!!  This is a necessity for any dvd collection!!!  Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray star in this quirky, captivating comedy about a self-promoting private school failure out to conquer the heart of a kindergarten teacher.

The transfer is flawless!  Colors and contrast clarity make rank this among the best dvds out there.  The 2.35:1 scope is a welcome necessity and the dolby digital 5.1 sound offers numerous directional effects as well as a stupendous soundtrack!!!

Oliver Stone's complex "revisionistic" look at Nixon makes for compelling viewing.  The acting is first-rate and the pacing is stepped up enough that the film's 191 minute running time seems much less.

The dvd transfer is excellent with perfect contrast and color levels.  The dolby digital 5.1 soundtrack is extremely active, offering a multitude of directional and atmospheric effects.

Our only complaint lies in the fact that the extras, including: extensive deleted segments, audio commentary, and more, offered in the laserdisc "Special Edition", aren't available here.

Steven Seagal's attempts at dealing with ecological issues within action films recall the days of "Billy Jack" movies.  The plot to "The Patriot" isn't worth going over, but the film's so skillfully directed by Dean Semler, that it's worth viewing.  The rapid editing, excellent cinematography and comic-book dialogue make this really entertaining.

The dvd transfer looks sharp, with accurate fleshtones, decent contrast, and a welcome 2.35:1 aspect ratio, capturing a few memorable compositions.  The dolby digital 5.1 soundtrack is fairly active, but mostly used for atmosphere.

A wonderful film, "Mrs. Brown" offers Judi Dench as Queen Victoria and Billy Connolly as her loyal servant.  Their endearing qualities make their plight continuously moving, and the film rings true with a sense of honesty.

The dvd transfer is a real disappointment.  While better than VHS, it's not nearly as sharp as the "only adequate" laserdisc version.  The master print seems to suffer from subdued colors and contrast is of minimal acceptance levels.  The dolby surround sound offers little in the way of directional or atmospheric effects
